Safety Breach:
So what do other parents do when their kids learn how to unbuckle their car seats, en route, and unbuckle their little siblings' seat too while the car is moving? There has got to be a back-up safety product out there, right? like a chain? Help!

oohhh scary and naughty!! Kendi has done that one time, well maybe more than that. My back-up plan was pulling the car over and spanking her. Hey, you asked. I never said I was the parent of the year....After that occured a couple of times, she stopped. I was ok with the fact that she stopped because she was scared of me. I know, you're too nice to do that though :) so good luck..

I am right there with you. Tommy has been doing it ever since he got his booster seat and his old chair went to Caitlin. Lets just say I reserve my really mad voice for life and death situations so he knows I mean business. We always pull over and he gets to see Mommy in a fury!! It has started happening less and less. I actually can't remember the last time which is an improvement form every time we are in the car. I also have talked lots and lots about him being in trouble with the police man and how we have to be safe. Now if I don't put my seat belt on I get a lecture on being safe!

My mom would tie my sisters with a shoelace.. But even that didn't work. They were driving and all of this sudden they felt a little tap on their shoulder. Sure enough my sister had got herself out. hahahah. Kids are crazy I guess :]

I say go with the padlock. But have a mean voice and tell her why you are doing this I think just that once will do the trick. Better yet have Robb tell her why she has to wear it...Good Luck!

ok, so I'm probably the worst yet but it stops them the first time everytime. I of couse give a Oh, my goodness what on earth are you doing? do you want to die? because that is what will happen if we crash! Then (brace your self) I tap on the breaks hard enough for them to see what it's like to get thrown down in the car. (not so hard it hurts them but just scares them) And then I say something like, did that feel good? was that scary? well if I really had to slam on the breaks or got in a wreck you would have flown through the window and died. It scares them enough to never do it again.
So now you know I'm am ruthless! I guess I figure their are sercomstance where you have to be blunt and direct.

there are some clasps from target called gaurdian angel. I got them after I got in an accident because it was truly a miracle that no one was hurt since they always got in and out at the time. A really horrific accident cured them of most of the problem though. I wouldnt recommend it though!

wow, thanks for all the advice! A lot of it made me laugh, all of it good. we have the whole spectrum from "mean voice" to "getting in an accident" and getting thrown from the car? LOVE it.

How about a new carseat? :) I realize it's not the most economic way, but Jack had no prob getting out of his old carseat, then we gave that one to Eddie and upgraded Jack to the Britax Regent Youth.. Even I can barely get that think unbuckled! And the best part - it's a five-point harness seat that works until he's 100 lbs. and whatever the height/age requirement is for kids to not need seats/boosters. This way we don't have to worry about transitioning to a booster seat later. :) I figure by the time he's strong/big enough to unbuckle that sucker he'll be old enough to know better. :)
